If you find it tough to get ready in the morning, or spend hours to get ready only to find out that you are late for a meeting. Or you just dread the idea of getting ready or looking a bit put together in the morning then this post is for you.
Now, I know often times, it is just a style guide telling you what to wear or style hacks. While I could put together than, in fact I have plenty of posts that I will link in this post, I really wanted this post to be more than that.
And if you really have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask them in the comment section below. I will try my best to answer.
The Why Behind It!
I cannot tell you how important this question is. Do you feel like you absolutely hate getting ready or looking nice. That is really hard to say YES to isn’t it.
We all want to look nice, hell even on days when I am sick, I want to look nice. But, we all need to dig a little deeper.
For me, getting ready and putting on a nice outfit feels exciting and lifts my mood. That leads me to being more focused and happy while working and that directly impacts my productivity.
Maybe for you, putting on nice clothes is not as important, wearing makeup or doing your hair makes you feel more put together and lifts your mood.
Once you start thinking about those aspects that make you feel excited to get ready, it becomes easier to do it and feel excited about it.
Ditch The Negativity
As women we somehow always criticize what we see in the mirror and come to the natural conclusion that we are not stylish.
I really want you to ditch that, please. Style is a habit that can be cultivated and of course I am here to help you with that.
But, having the mindset that you can never look good will do you no good.
So, stop hating your wardrobe or blaming the laundry pile, or your 3rd day hair that you don’t look good.
Rome is Not Built In a Day!
I had to bring this up because let’s be real, there will be days when you will not feel like putting on any makeup or wearing anything nice. All you probably want to do that day, is stay cozy in your PJs.
That is ok! But once you start practicing getting ready everyday, it gets easier.
Initially during the lockdown at home, I enjoyed staying in PJs all day. Skipped Workouts and thought I would be fine. I quickly realized that my style is going downhill and so is my motivation to get up.
This year, I have been practicing getting up, working out, taking a shower and getting ready. I have to tell you, I honestly get a lot more done by the end of the day. and feel absolutely accomplished.
The key here which I am going to share is to create a system that will help you achieve that. So, you don’t have to spend too much time figuring it out and at the end of it, hating the process.
Create an Easy Makeup Routine
We all love trying out new makeup, specially for those of you who absolutely enjoy makeup. But, in the morning when you are trying to get ready fast, you don’t have time to try on a new eyeshadow palette, or a new way of doing your foundation.
So, coming up with a routine that is easy and you can repeat everyday without a lot of effort is always the most effective. You can always keep the new makeup try ons for special occasions or on weekends, which you can practice and maybe incorporate into your daily routine.
Here are some easy things you can skip in your makeup routine to get it done faster:
Ditch The Foundation
Foundation definitely is one of the most important steps, but it also takes the most time. And if you do it wrong, it can look weird.
We definitely don’t want to look weird in our zoom calls.
I have a whole blog post where I share my everyday makeup routine without foundation where I share specific products that you can swap your foundation with.
No Need for Contouring
Another step you can easily skip is contouring which takes some precision and time.
I have found an excellent cream concealer from Becca that you can apply with your fingers and blend it too.
It makes the job faster.
A Quick Makeup Routine
For me a quick makeup routine is getting my browns done, line my eyes which you can skip if you have bigger eyes.
Using setting powder that magnifies my face and keeps it that way for hours. Adding mascara and my favorite lipstick. This takes about 5 – 7 minutes and I am done.
Try it and let me know if that works!
Invest In Hair Tools & Products
It might be that you have hair that once styled stays that way for days. But for me it just stays styled for a day specially after a workout, it’s always a mess.
This means for me to look a bit more put together, I need to style my hair almost everyday.
Investing in proper hair tools for your hair type is the key to getting ready faster. Hair gadgets usually last for ages, so if you can spare some dollars go for something that will actually do the job.
If you have wavy, curly or frizzy hair, invest in a good straightener that can style your hair quickly so that you are not spending hours trying to get your strands straight.
If you like to curl your hair like me or you have find hair that needs a root boost, you should invest in a good hot brush or a good curling iron that will do the job faster.
Don’t buy fancy stuff because it looks fancy!
Buy it if that is something you will be using everyday and can efficiently use it. Which brings me to my next point.
Don't Wash Your Hair Everyday!
I think you might have heard all the reasons why washing your hair everyday is really bad for you in the long run.
But in this case, it’s also time consuming. No matter whether you have short or long hair, it still takes so much time to style it.
Instead get dry shampoo that you can use to lift your roots on days when they really need that boost. And that takes like 30 secs compared to washing your hair.
Come Up With Your Go To Hairstyle
This one you might be already doing, but just wanted to say it because well, we all love to do new hairstyle.
I used to always get caught up in trying different Pinterest hair styles, but that can take up so much time.
Now a days I have boiled down to a few styles depending on how my hair behaves that day. Most days, I do middle part waves, but the days when my hair is really sticky, I choose to do side part.
Saves time and changes up my hair style a bit.
You don’t have to plan your outfits the night before or anything. But, you can still come up with outfits that look good and you don’t have to spend a lot of time figuring that out because, I totally know that its the worst thing in the morning looking at your closet and wasting time and getting frustrated that you have nothing decent to wear.
There are a few things you can do to completely avoid that like I have:
Create A Uniform
This is an easy way to create put together looks everyday without thinking about it a lot. I wore uniforms in school and do not regret it at all. I always looked smart and nice which was the whole purpose of the uniform.
This does not mean you wear the same look each day. Absolutely not! This means that you need to create a list of looks that you know look good and are appropriate for work or for being at home. This way you take the hassle out of figuring out what to wear which often leads to hating the whole process of getting ready.
You can head to Pinterest and save all the outfit inspirations for your everyday looks that you can wear. This will help you to come up with looks pretty easily.
I have created 30 days of outfit plans with an outfit calendar with 5 styles of bottoms which all of us own and wear everyday. These looks are stylish and still comfortable. I also have an outfit calendar so that you don’t have to do that yourself.
Add a Structured Layer
If you are really pressed for time and you cannot even refer to any ideas you can always add something structured to your outfit and you will instantly look chic and stylish.
I am a big fan of blazers which makes any outfit look structured and stylish. And blazers are no longer just for suits or for work, they have completely transformed and now you can find blazers that will fit perfectly to your everyday need.
I also love wearing trench coats that are perfect long layer and also can transform your most casual and comfortable outfits.
You don’t have to buy a whole collection of them but holding on to 1 blazer and 1 trench coat and you should be covered.
Pop Of Color
Adding some color to your everyday outfits is a really easy way of making your outfit look fresh and new and most importantly exciting. I can understand sometimes wearing color can feel a bit too much but trust me, it can easily refresh your outfit very easily.
A pop of color can bring a fresh perspective to your looks. Just add 1 color at a time. I love how an all black outfit can look so lively and fun with just pop of color.
If you find adding colors challenging, I have a complete spring outfit plan with 50 outfit ideas incorporating colors and essentials that look chic and put together.
Put Your Phone Away Please!
I cannot stress this part enough! Gosh, every morning when I keep my phone down as I am getting through my daily morning and always get surprised how productive I feel and actually get ready way faster compared to the days when I don’t.
And its not just about getting ready faster, the days when I linger on to my phone that early, there are all sorts negativity that kicks in to my brain. I feel completely distracted and then I am unhappy because I could not finish my workout properly and because I was distracted, I could not get ready on time, so I am upset about the whole thing.
You know what exactly what I mean right! This is probably the most important thing, Try it one day! I know you might have important emails to get to, but the morning time is your time. And you should prioritize yourself.
Do you have a hack that helps you get ready faster in the morning. Leave a note in the comment below.
