Hello my lovely Ladies! If you love modern and bohemian style, and have been wondering how to incorporate them, then this post is your everyday guide to achieve just that!
The bohemian style is my favorite way of dressing but it can be a weird one to handle as well because traditionally we associate the boho chic style of dressing to more of a hippie dressing.
At least that’s what I felt when I initially started to incorporate it in my everyday outfits. And I am the opposite of that in terms of dressing. I love structured fashion which includes tailored style, modern silhouettes, and so much more of looking more powerful in my overall style aesthetics.
But with my Indian origin I am naturally drawn to bohemian looks and all aspects of it. And over the years, my personal style has become a marriage of these two strong polar opposite of these two fashion genres.
And I wanted to share in this post how I like to create the modern boho chic looks in my everyday outfits by incorporating some fundamental guides that really make it easy to dress up and not feel lost.
Modern Colors
Bohemian style is vibrant and colorful as it embodies nature itself. Incorporating that is an easy way of imbibing the style itself.
Bohemian colors are generally earthy tones and a mix of natural colors like browns, greens, red, yellow.
Mixing them with modern colors like pastels, or neons is a great way of adding a bit of newness to the boho chic fashion.
If you don’t love colors a lot, you can easily add just 1 color that you love the most and incorporate it with a basic bohemian color, whether its browns, nudes or blacks.
The Blazer Style
This is my favorite and the easiest way to incorporate the boho chic look.
I love wearing flowy dresses or maxi skirts with blazers. A blazer adds a balance to flowy and non structured silhouette of the dress or the skirt.
It also makes the outfit more wearable and practical for everyday. You can wear it to work, or even to events where a complete boho look might not look all that great.
I have always been a blazer gal, and found happy medium with oversized blazers that add structure and are still comfortable to wear everyday.
Paired With Denim
If you are not a fan of blazers, denim jackets are an excellent alternative where you still add that modern touch to the look and make it casual and wearable for everyday.
I have a whole post about how to wear a cropped denim jacket that will help you create everyday bohemian looks that are also casual.
I also love wearing denim skirts with bohemian tops. Denim skirts are my spring staple in terms of creating everyday casual look. Since I still like dressy looks, I add a boho style top like a puff sleeve or printed top with my denim skirt to make it look casual and every day appropriate.
Tailored Style
Button Down Shirts
Puff sleeves or balloon sleeves are the perfect bohemian touch to any dress or top. Last year, we have seen so many variations of the puff sleeves starting from longer puff sleeves, to ruched sleeve details with them.
But I loved when they introduced them in the Tailored button down shirt. It really excited me to wear them because it was the perfect balance that I was looking for in an outfit.
The tailored fit of the shirt will add a modern touch to the bohemian top.
Tailored Trousers
If you are choosing to wear a bohemian puff sleeve blouse, I love adding a tailored pants like a wide leg pants or even slouchy jeans that have the pleated stitching which makes your look casual as well as structured.
Slouchy jeans are the perfect blend of casual, structured and comfort. Whoever designed this, I can’t tell you how much I love them right now. I have been living in them for over a year now and I completely skipped skinny jeans and swapped them with the slouchy ones.
They give a trouser look which is so modern but yet so comfortable.
Modern Accessories
Belt It
This is really a fun way of adding a modern touch to a bohemian look.
With a bohemian more free flowing garment, you can create a structured look with a leather belt with neutral hues like white or black. This not only makes you look chic and stylish, it also balances the overall look.
Again, I have a whole blog post where I am sharing how a belt can transform and elevate your everyday looks.
Structured Footwear
I also love wearing pointy toe boots or loafer mules with bohemian dresses or skirts that again adds a modern element to my outfit.
Boots are part of the bohemian look, but a pair of pointy toe ones add a modern touch to the overall look.
The Pointy style of the footwear will give you the length since and is specially benefited if you are petite or have a shorter torso like mine.
Touch Of Leather
Leather Structured Trousers
Suede is a big part of the bohemian style, but adding leather texture can bring in more of a modern touch your bohemian look.
It does not have to be real leather. Most of my leather pieces are actually faux leather. Going for a good quality faux leather piece would actually last you for ages and would not require a lot of maintenance.
My go to way of wearing bohemian styles are adding a bohemian top to leather trousers. Its a perfect structured balance and a really wearable as well.
Its my most worn outfit during fall and winter when its too cold to wear denim.
Modern Leather Jackets
Leather jackets are also an excellent way of adding a modern detail to the boho look. But I would stay away from fringe details or too much studs on the leather jacket which usually makes you look outdated. But I am sure those styles will make a comeback pretty soon.
You can also wear leather bomber jackets which will look casual and still wearable.
I recently shared a post about leather jacket outfits where I shared how you can add a leather jacket with floral print dress and a tiered skirt to create such a cute boho chic look that is perfect for everyday as well.
Modern Print Swap
If you don’t like to at all wear bohemian prints but still love the boho chic style, there are some ways to achieve that too.
Embroidered Details
Embroidered garments bring in that subtle bohemian style but in a more sophisticated way. I have always been drawn to more embroidered pieces when I look for bohemian styles because the garment itself is of a solid color and the embroidery usually is concentrated only in certain sections of the piece and not everywhere.
Smaller Prints
Smaller bohemian prints are definitely my preference the bigger ones.
The smaller print makes the garment look more expensive and less busy which makes your personality shine through.
