Best Skinny Jeans Alternatives Still Fitted But Look Elevated

You have been hearing this, skinny jeans are dead or outdated! But you are still wondering what jeans to wear! In this post, I am sharing the best skinny jeans alternatives you can wear that will give you the same confidence.

Why Not Skinny Jeans?

I am sure you must be thinking, why does she hate skinny jeans so much. What is wrong with them?

I honestly have no problem with skinny jeans at all. But I find them limited. My style feels limited. In my 20s, all I cared about was looking skinny and sexy. I am sure some of you would relate.

While I still feel sometimes that way,  I also want my style to be more about my personality than my body type. I want to look sophisticated and modern and most importantly be comfortable in my clothes.

If I am comfortable, I feel confident to do things that I enjoy rather than always worrying about or trying to fix my clothes.

There is also a huge problem with skinny jeans! For me, tucking my tops and sweaters are an important part of my style and it helps me to look effortlessly stylish. But with skinny jeans you cannot do that most of the time. And specially if you have a straight figure like mine.

You end up looking bulky in the middle and that is not really flattering is it! If you are on the same boat as me, then please share your thoughts as well.

What Jeans to Wear Instead of Skinny Jeans

If you are on the same boat as me, you are just done with skinny jeans. You can’t to move on to a more comfortable style, then jeans are perfect for you.

Slouchy Jeans

This had to be the first one, because this is the jeans that helped me explore other styles of denim. I shared my honest opinion about them on the post where I share Why I skipped skinny jeans for more than a year, and living in slouchy jeans.

There is a reason they are called slouchy, they are not as rigid and fitted as skinny jeans are, so you don’t feel like you are wearing a corset on your hips. These jeans are great for travel, running errands and you can wear these jeans even if you have a belly pooch.

The Couch Slouch Jeans from AYR are the best high quality slouchy jeans you can see. They are one of the best sellers from the brand.

They give you the slouchy jeans comfort without the sogginess in the bottom. So, your back look just like they did in skinny jeans.

Isn’t that the most important reason we all wear them.

Plus, they come in two different seam lengths, so they are also petite friendly.

Straight Leg Jeans

Straight leg jeans are the best alternative I have found that gives you the structure and support but does not feel as restricted as skinny jeans feels.

The straight leg style is also really flattering on all body type. Specially if you are pear shaped or have a straight figure, it balances your proportion and makes you look elevated.

These are my favorite style of jeans. And you know I love the Levi’s ribcage straight leg jeans

But if you want something stretchy and comfortable, then try the Madewell Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg Jean. Yes, it’s called wide leg, but the design of the jeans are straight leg.

They have a comfortable stretch to them and they also come in petite and tall sizes. I bought these jeans in white and absolutely love them.

Wide Leg Jeans

Wide leg jeans are perfect for straight figured women like myself because of the wider leg style, they draw attention to the legs and hence make your waist appear slender. This helps add a waistline and have the hour glass silhouette.

These jeans are also perfect for special occasion outfits when you want to add a little bit of extra touch to your overall look with some pointy toe heels (they don’t have to be super high).

The elegant style of these jeans make them perfect for any body type and they also bring in a sophistication to our looks even if they are jeans.

If you haven’t tried them, ever, I recommend a black pair because they would go well with everything.

Want an everyday pair, a blue wide leg jeans will be perfect for you. The Everlane Way-High Sailor Jeans are the perfect everyday pair. It’s comfortable, stretchy and looks flattering.

And it also comes in 27.5 inches inseam which would be great for those of you who wear flats a lot. Or you can also pair your favorite pair of white leather sneakers to create a smart casual look.

Baloon or Barrel Jeans

Baloon or barrel jeans have a wider leg width around knees and it tapers as you go towards the ankle. This is one of the most flattering style of jeans that can make any body type look curvy.

If you have a straight figure or you are too skinny and you look like a stick in skinny jeans, then these jeans are your best friend.

Levis has brought the baloon leg jeans back and I could not be happier. They do run small, so don’t forget to size up.

The best thing about them are they are ankle length by default, so you can rock them with flats or heels. They look great in both.

But these jeans still come in two different seam lengths, so if you are on a taller side, you can still rock them.

What Jeans to Wear To Upgrade Your Skinny Jeans

Still love the figure hugging style of the skinny jeans, but you really feel outdated in them, here are some great alternatives that give you the same fit, but are much more elevated versions.

Flayered Cropped Jeans

Flayered jeans in general look really chic on any body type. Because of the flared style they have a way of making you look slimmer and create a curve.

But with the cropped style, there is a bit of ankle show that not only makes you look TALLER, it also adds a chicness to the style.

You can have so much fun with all the different styles of footwear because all of them will show in these jeans.

You can also wear ankle boots comfortably without worrying about folding your jeans. Isn’t that awesome!

The Mother’s Frayed Ankle jeans look so chic and elevated. They have the perfect amount of flare, not too much. So, they hug your things just like skinny jeans.

But they are much more flattering and hug your body all at the right place. This style of jeans actually makes you look slimmer. They are also high waisted, so you can wear them in confidence.

Narrow Leg Jeans

These can also be called narrow straight leg, but the legs get narrower as it hits the ankle. These jeans are also mostly cropped or more like ankle length.

The best thing about them is that they appear to look like skinny jeans but they are not skinny jeans.

Your legs are not getting squished in those jeans, but more importantly you look more sophisticated and modern in them compared to skinny jeans.

The Madewell Perfect vintage jean gives you all of that you are looking for in a skinny jeans, without looking skinny. It looks flattering and a much more elevated version of skinny jeans.

But it also comes with the same amount of stretch you see in the skinny jeans. And the same hugging feeling in the back, so you look svelte.

They also come in petite, standard and tall sizes, so you can pick an ankle length perfect for your height.

Flared Jeans

Flared jeans or Bell bottom jeans as they were called another style of jeans that will give you the same fit around your hip and things. They feel just like skinny jeans. But the flared bottom looks flattering and adds softness  to your body shape.

Here is another advantage, that people don’t realize. Flared jeans can make you look taller. It does not matter whether you wear flats or heels, they will make your legs look longer and in turn help you look lean.

What to wear instead of skinny jeans - Flared jeans

Madewell Skinny Flare Jeans is the perfect combination of skinny jeans and flared jeans. These jeans are stretchy and high waisted.

They look like your favorite skinny jeans with hugging thighs and back. But the slight flare at the boot makes the jeans flattering and elevated. Definitely a better version than the skinny jeans you have been wearing.
