What Outfit Will Be Appropriate For Bali

One of the main things to know about Bali is that while the weather is hot, it’s also really humid! Pretty much as soon as you get off the plane, expect Monica in Barbados hair and a constant drip of sweat. This means I try to stay away from tight or clingy clothes and really embrace the boho style. Think flowy dresses, lightweight materials, and lots of cute swimsuits.

You’ll want to stick to mostly cotton and linen fabrics as they are breathable and will help you stay cool. Avoid wearing black or dark colors as they tend to absorb heat and make you feel even hotter. Opt for light-colored or patterned pieces instead. (as a former black-only wardrobe girl, I know this can be a difficult adjustment, but trust me, once you feel the heat, you’ll thank me!)

Of course, one of the main things you’ll probably do in Bali is visit the beach. So make sure to pack plenty of swimsuits and cover-ups. You can never have too many options for those perfect Instagram shots, am I right?

Last but not least, shoes. While flip-flops are definitely a must-have, you’ll also want to pack some comfortable sneakers or walking shoes for exploring. The streets in Bali can be uneven and bumpy, so heels or sandals with thin soles might not be the best idea. I try to stick to a pair of sandals and a pair of sneakers for versatility.

Here are some of my favorite looks and must-haves for a trip to Bali:

Bandeau Cutout Jumpsuit

This jumpsuit is perfect for a day of exploring Bali. The airy fabric and loose fit on the legs is everything you need to stay cool in the hot Indonesian sun. The light color and cute palm tree pattern will look amazing against the tropical backdrop.

Flowy Maxi Dress

This is the perfect dress for exploring temples in Ubud. With its long, flowy bottom and short sleeves, you’ll be comfortable and covered up for any cultural visits. The dress comes in a few colors, but personally, I think the olive one really brings out the earthiness of Bali.

Low back tank Maxi dress

This low-back tank dress is a must-have for a day at the rice terraces or exploring the different boho markets. It’s simple design and light fabric will keep you cool and stylish. The white will bring out your tan and really pop in your Instagram photos! Plus, the low back adds a little bit of flair to your outfit.

Printed Linen Pants

For a more casual and relaxed look, these printed linen pants are perfect for a day of lounging by the beach or exploring local cafes. The wide leg design and lightweight fabric make them comfortable and breathable in the warm Bali weather. Plus, the fun print adds a pop of color to your outfit. You can through on a shirt with sleeves, and you’ll be temple ready, or wear a swim top or a cute tank for a beachy vibe.

Patterned Scarf

You can never have too many scarves when in Bali. This brightly patterned scarf is so versatile, you can wear it as a swimsuit coverup, a head wrap, or even drape it around your shoulders when you visit and religious sites. Plus, the lightweight fabric is perfect for the warm weather and will add a pop of color to any outfit.

Cotton Button Up

This is one of my favorite ways to cover up in Bali. The lightweight, breathable cotton fabric is perfect for staying cool in the hot weather. But the crocheted cutouts give it that boho chic look. You can wear it over a swim top, a colorful dress, or even a pair of denim shorts. The button-up design makes it easy to throw on and off throughout the day, whether you’re exploring temples or lounging by the pool.

What to Wear When Visiting Temples (Ubud)

Ubud is a must visit when in Bali, with its stunning temples and cultural sites. However, when visiting these sacred places, it’s important to dress respectfully. This means covering your shoulders and knees (both men and women) and avoiding any revealing or tight clothing.

I know that in 90-degree heat with 100% humidity, wearing heaps of clothes is the last thing you want to do, but save the shorts and tank tops for the beach. With a little creativity, you can still look stylish and stay cool while visiting temples.

Flowy maxi dresses or skirts paired with a lightweight blouse or tunic are a perfect choice. You can also opt for wide-legged pants or culottes with a loose-fitting top. And if you choose to go with a tank, no worries, I just recommend bringing along a shawl or scarf to cover your shoulders while inside the temple.

You can even get a local sarong (a traditional Balinese wrap skirt) at most temples or markets to wear over your clothes. Not only is it a respectful option, but it also makes for a unique and colorful addition to your outfit, and what a fun souvenir to bring back home!

Recreate The Look

What Shoes To Wear To Italy?

When visiting architecture and ruins, it’s important to not only consider the weather but also the type of terrain you will be exploring. Whether it’s ancient temples, castles, or historical sites, wearing comfortable and appropriate clothing is key.

Some of my favorite sites in Bali include the Tirta Gangga Water Palace and The Peliatan Royal Palace, both of which require some walking and exploring. You can also visit the iconic Tanah Lot Temple, known for its majestic ocean views and stunning architecture.

For these types of adventures, I recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes or sneakers, lightweight and breathable clothing (especially if visiting during warmer months), and a small crossbody bag to carry your essentials.

When you aren’t visiting holy sites, you can be a little more bold with your outfit choices. Instead of wearing long dresses in a temple, you can opt for a nice pair of shorts with a breathable top. This will allow you to be a little more mobile as you explore the ruins.

Recreate The Look

What to Wear When Visiting the Rice Fields

The rice terraces in Ubud are some of the most breathtaking sights in Bali. Once you get away from the busy streets, you will be greeted by vast fields of green and the gentle sound of swaying rice stalks. This is a perfect opportunity to take in the natural beauty of Bali and capture some stunning photos.

The terraces were one of the first pictures I saw on IG that immediately had me looking up flights. The gorgeous green fields surrounded by palm trees and blue skies is seriously stunning. From the moment I saw those photos, I knew I had to recreate them.

Picking out what to wear to the rice fields can be tricky, but the key is to think practical and comfortable. The terrain may be uneven and muddy, so wearing sturdy shoes or sandals with good grip is important. Hats are also essential to protect yourself from the sun while exploring.

When choosing colors and patterns for your outfit, it’s important to remember that the main color of the rice fields is green, which is why I recommend wearing white. It’s simple yet elegant and allows you to blend in with the natural surroundings while still standing out in your photos. And plus, white is perfect for capturing that dreamy, ethereal vibe in your pictures.

Strapless one piece

The strapless white one-piece will look absolutely stunning against the green backdrop of the rice fields. It’s simple yet stylish and perfect for capturing breathtaking photos. The wide-leg pants also make it easy to move around and explore without feeling restricted. You can wear a colorful scarf to cover your shoulders or a cute sun hat to complete the look.

Sized from XS-XL and with an elastic stretch in the back it’s true to size with some wiggle room. The legs are long and wide, so if you’re on the shorter side you might have to get them hemmed so they don’t drag the ground.

Jumpsuit with lace cutouts

This jumpsuit is a great option for a more feminine and boho look. The lace cutouts add an elegant touch, and the flowy pants will make you feel like you’re floating in the rice fields. The tie waist also allows you to adjust the fit for maximum comfort while exploring. And my favorite part: It has pockets! Perfect for storing your phone or some small essentials.

Sized from US 0 – US 14, this jumpsuit runs true to size, and the adjustable waist makes it easy to find the perfect fit.

Light weight skirt

This flowy skirt just screams Bali, it’s boho and lightweight, perfect for twirling around in the rice fields. The elastic waistband makes it easy to throw on over a bikini or pair it with a cute crop top for a more put-together look. And the best part is that it comes in multiple colors so you can choose whichever one matches your vibe for the day.

Sized from XS-XL, this skirt has a relaxed fit and is perfect for all body types.

White Tube Top

If you decide to go with a two-piece outfit, this white tube top is a must-have. It’s simple yet chic and can be dressed up or down depending on your plans for the day. I love the little details, from the eyelet pattern to the ruffled hem. The top has straps so you can either wear it as a little cami or tuck them in for a strapless look.

This tube top is available in sizes XS-XL and runs true to size. It’s also machine washable, making it easy to care for during your travels.

What to Wear When Climbing Candidasa Temple Steps

One of the most epic temples in Bali is Candidasa Temple with its impressive staircase leading up to the top. The temple has more than 28 structures through 7 staircases and a whopping 1700 steps. The architecture is truly one of a kind and the climb to the top is definitely worth it for the stunning views.

While climbing the steps is no easy feat, you can still look effortless and stylish while doing so. Opt for lightweight, breathable clothing such as flowy maxi dresses or loose pants paired with a tank top. This will allow you to move comfortably while still looking chic in your photos.

Make sure to bring your scarf or shawl to cover your shoulders. They can be less strict about dress code here, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

As for shoes, go for something comfortable. I don’t necessarily think you need closed toes as the steps are very clean, but definitely wear something with a good grip as it can be slippery in some areas.

Black Jumpsuit

Now I know I said black isn’t the best color to wear in hot weather, but it just looks so chic and stylish that one outfit is worth the sweat. Plus, this jumpsuit is lightweight and flowy, making it perfect for climbing the steps without feeling weighed down. The ruffle details add a touch of femininity and boho aesthetic to the look, and even though it’s black, it still gives off a light and airy vibe.

Suspender separates

If you aren’t too keen on a jumpsuit, this beachy suspender set is another great option for the steps. The loose, wide-legged pants are perfect for staying cool and comfortable while climbing the steps.  The fabric is uber-breathable, and the suspender detail adds a fun and unique touch to the outfit. Plus, you can mix and match these pieces with other items in your wardrobe for even more versatility.

What to Wear To Visit Swings

Bali is one of the destinations that made swings really famous, and for good reason. Swings overlooking the rice fields or lush jungles are a must-do in Bali. There are loads of different swings scattered throughout the island, and each one is unique. Depending on which swing you choose to visit, your outfit can vary.

If you plan on visiting a jungle or forest swing, opt for something comfortable and breathable such as shorts paired with a cute top or a lightweight jumpsuit. For swings overlooking rice fields, flowy maxi dresses or skirts are perfect for capturing those perfect Instagram shots. Don’t be shy, this is your chance to be flashy and have some fun with your outfit choices. Don’t forget to accessorize with a wide-brimmed hat or sunglasses for some added flair.

If you’re planning on doing some other activities, I recommend visiting the OG Bali swing where you can rent a flowy dress to get the perfect photo without having to pack one in your suitcase. This swing also has some other fun activities such as a giant bird’s nest, a helicopter ride prop, and a heart-shaped photo frame.

A few things to keep in mind, the swings have gotten so popular that a lot of them now charge an entrance fee and have specific time slots for photos. Make sure to do your research beforehand and plan accordingly. You can get caught in a line for the swings, so it’s best to arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon for a more peaceful experience. And of course, don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the beautiful views while swinging!

Red maxi Dress

Packing a whole gown can take up valuable luggage space and may not be practical for all your travel plans. But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on an epic picture on the swings. Opt for this versatile cover-up dress. It’s lightweight, easy to pack, and perfect for throwing over your swimwear or wearing on its own—a win-win. The flowy silhouette and vibrant red color will make for a stunning photo against the lush greenery of Bali.

Palmero Linen Dress

This sleeveless midi dress has tropical vacation written all over it. The vibrant red color and flowy linen fabric will keep you cool and comfortable while also adding a touch of elegance to your swing photo. And the bold leaf print will make for a stunning backdrop against the Bali jungle. It’s also the perfect day to night option, so you can wear it for a day of exploring and then head straight to dinner and drinks without having to change.

What to Wear In Bali Market At Night

Bali has some of the best beach clubs and nightlife, so it’s no surprise that the island lights up after the sun sets. If you’re planning on exploring the markets at night, you’ll be able to dress it up a little bit and actually where the cute outfits you’ve been saving for the trip. Consider a flowy romper or maxi dress paired with some sandals or wedges for a comfortable but stylish look.

Depending on where you’re staying in Bali, the clubs can be a bit more upscale, so feel free to dress up in a nice dress or button-up shirt for the men. Don’t forget to bring along a light jacket or wrap for when it gets cooler as well.

And let’s not forget about the accessories! Bali is known for its beautiful handmade jewelry, so take advantage of that and pick up some unique pieces at the markets to add some flair to your outfits. And of course, don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be doing a lot of walking and dancing throughout the night.

Overall, the key is to find a balance between comfort and style when dressing for the Bali market at night. And most importantly, have fun and embrace the island’s vibrant atmosphere and culture!

Floral Print One Shoulder

This stunning one-shoulder dress is a perfect example of the unique and vibrant style that Bali has to offer. The floral print and one-shoulder design add a touch of femininity, while the asymmetrical hemline adds a modern twist. The flowing pieces of fabric add to the breezy and carefree vibe of Bali. This dress is perfect for a night out at the markets, paired with some strappy sandals and statement earrings.

Multi Cut out Dress

You will be turning every head in Bali in the slinky Jangelique Femi Dress. This flowy, multi-colored maxi dress is perfect for a night out at the markets or even a sunset dinner by the beach. The high slit and ring detail in the front adds a little bit of sex appeal and the lightweight fabric will keep you cool in the tropical heat. Pair it with some strappy sandals and dainty jewelry for a look that screams effortless chic.

Sized from XS-XL running true to size, it’s a long dress and might require some heels or alterations if you’re under 5’6.
