If you are on any social media, you might have already seen these viral tinted lip balms from Violette_FR that claim to give you the Parisian undone lip look. Honestly, I saw the ads so many times that I really wanted to try it and see whether they live upto their expectations.
I am usually reluctant to buy beauty products from brands that I don’t know much about. But every time I opened instagram, I saw the models trying the product and the finished look was effortless lip color. It makes it seem that your lips naturally have that color.
So, let’s see if it is delivered or not.
What Is The French Lip Style?
French women are known for this effortless natural makeup look that is really popular. Whenever you look at a french lady, you can never figure out if they are wearing makeup or not. And the French lips usually is a bit undone on the edges.
And the lip color looks all natural. Even if they were a bold red color, it still does not feel way too done as you see in America. This makes their makeup look unique and chic.
About The Brand
Violette_FR is a makeup brand founded in 2021 by the French makeup artist, Violette Serrat. The makeup brand is relatively new but the products reflect Violette’s experience in makeup.
The beauty line does not carry only lip colors, it carries a full makeup line from Lip to face. The brand also carries haircare and skincare products. But the main focus is to bring french beauty routines and makeup to the global market.
And I am not complaining. Love the clean packaging and font styling already.
What I Bought?
I bought the famous Bisou balm which is the brand’s tinted lip balm in matte finish. This lip balm costs $29 in USD which definitely feels expensive for a brand that is so new. I picked the first shade called Amour Fou.
Then I bought the shade Bonbon Myrtille separately for the same price.
The brand has a popular shade that attracted me to it called Betise that was sold out at the time.
Feel Of The Lip balm
I was worried that because this lip balm is matte finish it won’t keep my lips hydrated even though it claims to moisturize. And on the first use I definitely felt like it does not have the glossy feeling as other regular tinted lip balm.
My lips don’t glide as quickly as it does with other ones. But I wore it for a couple of hours to test whether my lips feel dry. And the answer was no.
My lips felt natural without any shine that you get in most lip balms. But they were not dry at all. And after a couple of hours as I talked, drank water and ate, I reapplied just like other lip balms.
Look Of The Lip Balm
I was instantly impressed by how it looked. It had the natural lip color feeling to it. As if I was born with lips in these shades.
With one application, I saw a hint of the Amour Fou shade’s light coral red shade on my lips. It was like a hint of it. But with double application the color was more pronounced and highlighted. I loved it.
The days I wanted a little bit of gloss or shine to my lip color, I added plain lip balm to add that shine. Or add my other tinted lip balm for other colors.
Longevity
These are just lip balms, so expecting them to stay on forever is not fair. But in general, they do last 2 hours if you are not eating or drinking. But this is not a long-lasting lipstick, so please don’t have that expectation.
Overall Thoughts
I love how this lip balm gives a natural tinted lip look which you can never get from any matte lipstick. This is perfect for everyday natural look. The part that I am not 100% sold on is the price point. But I am guessing it will be cheaper in French currency as its a french brand.
Favorite Colors
Obviously I will share my favorite colors here. I love the Amour Fou shade which is perfect for light to medium tone skins.
I also love the Bonbon Myrtille which looks perfect on me even though it appears pretty dark.
That’s the beauty of lip balms. You can build the color if you need to.
The third favorite is Bêtise which is in my shopping cart currently.
