Olaplex No.3 Honest Review & How to Properly Use it

If you have fine hair like me, you know how tough it is to manage on a regular basis when you want to color your hair or if you want to heat style your hair everyday. I have always struggled with frizziness which fine hair often causes.

Since our hair is fine, its easy to loose moisture as well get stripped off from moisture if we use harsh products. Around 3 years ago, I was almost at the verge of total hair hell. I used to color my hair and style it daily. I was also probably using the wrong hair products entirely. I have definitely made a lot of changes to my hair routine since then, but I wanted to share my honest thoughts on the Olaplex No. 3 that I have been using since 3 years.

Why I bought it?

When I was looked at purchasing this hair treatment product, I had really harsh color treatment on my hair and It was breaking really bad. I didnt know what to do with it honestly and had lost all hopes of recovering from this hair damage and was almost ready to chop of 10 inch from my hair. Yup, it was that bad.

I really heard a lot about this product and wanted to give it a try after failed trials on tone of other products. So, I bought the 3.3 oz one which is the full size and costs about $28.

How Does it Feel?

The product has a soft fragrance which I always love on any hair product. It masks all the burnt smell when you heat style your hair. The product has more of a shampoo like texture, not too thick like a conditioner. The fluid thickness, makes it really easy to apply and stay on your hair compared to dripping.

I am really not sure how they did that. I have never had a drip from this product. Sometimes, hair mask feel that way. But, this product just instantly sticks to your hair and stays that way. Its really easy to apply because of the bottle nozzle.

Price & Value

As I mentioned earlier, the 3.3 oz one is priced at $28. Now, you all might have used more expensive hair masks, I sure have, so for me the price was not a big issue. You can also get sample sizes of this product. Olaplex line of hair treatments were initially created for Salon use, as there are No. 1 & No. 2 treatment that is used during hair color. So, there are smaller ample ones also available and you can get No.3 for around $10 which seems more expensive compared to the 3.3 oz price as you are getting more for the money.

How Many Uses from the Bottle?

I have medium hair length and the bottle lasts me about 4-5 use, so its not really too bad for me. Sometimes, if I have applied more, it might just be about 4 times which makes it around $8 per use. Not too bad, what do you think?

I honestly don’t mind since I pay more to damage my hair (hahaha, honestly).

Ease Of Use?

Olaplex is one of the most easy to use hair treatment products out there, hence its so popular. You can just take it out and apply on your hair directly without any mix and match or anything. And I think that is the main reason for its popularity and why now its so widely being used by everyone.

Overall Thoughts

As I said earlier on my post that, I have been using Olaplex no. 3 for the past 3 years, so you have probably guessed what the results might have been. I definitely saw a change starting from the first use. My hair didnt feel rough or damaged, it felt soft, and healthy. My hair got its shine back which I was most thankful about. Glossy and shiny hair is the first sign of healthy hair. My split ends reduced drastically after the first month of use. And ever since then, I have been a fan of this little magic potion and cannot imagine what I would do without it.

Now, what I did realize that, you dont have to have color treated hair to use Olaplex No. 3. If you have damaged hair because you are an active swimmer, or have really really frizzy hair, this product would also help. Olaplex No. 3 is a bonding treatment. It adds molecules back to the hair to bind it and make it stronger and healthier. Its not like a mask that only adds moisture. And that is why it works wonder on restoring hair.

How To Use Olaplex No. 3 In Your Hair Care Routine?

Here is is how I use it in my hair routine:

Step 1

Wet your hair, you dont have to get your roots wet because you are only use it on your hair and not on your scalp. Hair needs to be just damp and not dripping wet.

Step 2

Take a generous amount of the product and apply it on your hair and massage softly to ensure that all of the hair has the product. Since it quickly absorbs or sticks, I also try to partition my hair in two and apply it.

Step 3

Tie your hair in a bun and leave it for at least 2-3 hours. You can also leave it longer. I sometimes also use it overnight, Use a hair wrap to cover your hair if you want to do that.

Step 4

Then wash it normally. I always use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner and you should too if you suffer from frizziness.

Step 5

And thats it. You will feel a definite difference.

Bonus Tip

Use a hair mask for more glossiness in your hair. While Olaplex No. 3 is a great bonding agent, it does not give you that visual effect right away. Adding a hair mask of your choice can give you the instant transformation.
